What to Do When the Spooler Subsystem App Encounters a Problem

Print spooler subsystem application forms an essential component of the Windows operating system (OS). It establishes communication between a Windows-based computer and a printer. Therefore, if the application malfunctions, the printer will not print as it would not receive print instructions from the computer.

Why the Printer Spooler Error Occurs?
·         Damaged or corrupted printer drivers
·         Crashed printer spooler application
·         Virus/malware infection

Check the below mentioned steps and fix your printer issues:

Reboot computer – Disconnect the power cord from your computer and printer, and also disconnect the printer from computer. Now power on the computer first and then connect the printer back to it. Power on the printer, the computer should now detect the printer and the problem should be resolved. Rebooting resolves many problems as it resets the program settings.
Update DriversPrinter drivers should be updated regularly; an old or corrupted driver will lead to multiple problems including the printer spooler error.
Damaged/corrupted driver – If the driver has gone faulty or damaged then remove the driver and download and install the latest driver for whichever Windows version you have from your manufacturer’s website.
Reinstall printer software – Remove the old printer software along with its registry entries and .dll files. Restart the computer and then reinstall the printer software.
Printer Spooler Fix Wizard – Download the wizard from the Microsoft website and save and run it on your system. Let the wizard fix all the internal problems.
Run antivirus scan – Update your antivirus program, and run a full scan to verify if your computer is infected with virus/malware etc. Wait for the scan to finish and let your antivirus delete the infections if there are any.

Repair Damaged Windows files:
·         Click the ‘Start’ menu> click ‘Run
·         In the Run box, type in ‘sfc /scannow’ (without quotes) and click on ‘OK
·         Note, when you run this command, you should have the Windows XP CD inserted in your CD drive. The command will now scan for missing Windows files as well as repair the corrupted ones.

***If you recently upgraded to Windows XP/Vista/7 from the older versions such as 2000, NT etc. and did not remove old printer files, it can result in printer spooler error. So whenever you upgrade to a newer Windows version, delete the previous files and registry entries also to avoid the problem.

How to Install Fonts on Mac

If you are a proud Mac owner, you already believe in stylish things that add to your style statement, profession etc. Just like that you may also want to mark a stylish impression in your documents or emails etc. You can certainly make your emails, graphic presentations or documents appealing and attractive using different font types, sizes.

Before you begin, let’s understand what font types does your Mac support. It is a good to know information and can simplify your work. Mac OS X 10 or later versions support TrueType, PostScript Type1, and OpenType fonts. Take a look at below steps and install the desired fonts on your Mac:
1. Close any open program or active application running in the background. Look for the desired fonts in your Mac. There are more than 4 font folders in a Mac OS X computer. These might be located in Library, Network, Local, or System etc. Though you can individually explore all the folders but if you want to save time, then use Finder on the desktop.
2. Click to choose the desired font suitcase, unpack it, select the fonts, and drag and drop them into the Fonts folder inside the Library folder. If you are choosing PostScript Type1 fonts, then choose the printer outline files too. Exit all the windows and start using your application with new fonts. You can also preview a font before installing it. The auto-preview will appear in the right hand side of the font.
3. Earlier Mac OS X versions viz. 9x or 8x support both TrueType and PostScript Type1 fonts. The installation procedure will remain same for these versions. Once you have chosen the fonts, drag and drop them to System Folder. When prompted, hit the OK button. Close all the windows and start working on your application with new fonts.

4. If you want to use third-party fonts, download these from their website. When downloaded, extract the zip file’s contents to a folder using any extraction utility like Stuffit Expander. If your browser is Safari, then there is no need of using such extraction utility. Safari automatically extracts contents of a zip file and saves it to another file in the Downloads folder. Simply open the file and drag and drop the desired fonts into the Fonts folder. Similarly, exit all the windows and start using new fonts in your application.
5. If you face any difficulty while using fonts as these sometimes don’t appear in the Fonts folder, then reboot your Mac computer. You must also check that no font duplication has been done. Font duplication can create problems when you try to use a font. You can even remove as well as install new fonts as per your choice and need.
***Fonts are designed to add beauty to your graphic or publishing design. These help your project look more appealing and creative.

How to Fix Mac Startup Errors

A Mac is an excellent piece of vanguard design and technology. That's why you feel pride and great having a Mac in your hands. It's a great machine that helps you perform everything beautifully and quickly. Despite that your Mac computer is built to function well, it may be struck by errors when you start it.
Such errors can occur mostly due to faulty hardware components like power cable, hard drive, cooling fan, or firmware etc. and not-so-rarely due to software problems. Some Mac startup errors are easy to fix while some may need a professional Apple support service.
1. Power cycle your Mac by shutting down and restarting it. If your Mac refuses to shut down, force it to shut down by pressing and holding down the Power button for some time. Afterwards, power your Mac on and check back to determine whether it has started working or not. Power cycling often resets the settings and removes temporary glitches, making your Mac computer work again.
2. If you see a gray screen after you turn on your Mac, disconnect any external device like printer, router, or hard drive etc. You should also plug out any Ethernet cable connected to your Mac computer. Restart your Mac then. If it starts up fine without showing gray screen or error message, it indicates a problem with an external device.
3. Now plug each device one by one and turn on your computer. You should repeat this step after plugging each device. It’s going to show you which particular device is causing your computer not to boot properly. Either upgrade drivers of the malfunctioning device or replace its faulty part (like cable). If the entire device is faulty, check with your device manufacturer for a replacement.
4. If the problem persists, reboot your computer in Safe Mode. Restart your computer and immediately start pressing and holding down the Shift key on the keyboard. This will load your Mac in Safe Mode. It may take little longer than the usual startup due to disk checking and other operations. If Mac starts up fine in Safe Mode, restart it immediately to load the normal start up. If Mac does not boot in Safe Mode, check and reset PRAM and NVRAM.
5. To do so, restart your Mac and immediately press and hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys together on the keyboard before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold down the keys until your Mac utters startup sound the second time. Once you hear the sound, release all the keys. It will reset the PRAM and NVRAM to default. Depending on your Mac modal, you may need to reset your clock settings (which have been reset to default).
6. If your Mac utters a nauseating beep, it may indicate a bad RAM. Shut down your computer and open the RAM panel carefully. If you need assistance on opening the RAM panel and removing the memory slot, refer to your Mac support manual. Take out one RAM module at a time and then reboot your Mac. Perform this procedure for each memory module. It will help you pick out the faulty RAM module. Replace the faulty module. Back up any data that the faulty module might have on it before trashing it.
7. If your Mac continues to refuse to booting up, look for your Mac OS X installation disk and place it in the drive of your computer. Restart your computer while pressing and holding down the C key on the keyboard. When done, navigate to the Disk Utility section under the Utility tab and run disk repair. Follow the on-screen prompts and complete the operation. When done, exit the Disk Utility section and restart your computer. Take the Mac installation disk out and keep it safe for future purposes.
***A faulty power supply cord, logic board, cooing fan can also contribute to the Mac startup errors. Visually inspect the faulty hardware and replace it. Since Mac hardware components are relatively inexpensive, you can replace them without thinking much about the cost.
