Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is the free antivirus offering from Microsoft. Check the steps given below and fix them:

3. If you still get the same or different error code, you might have another antivirus, anti-spyware, or firewall program installed on your PC. Check your PC for the same. 4. Also delete the registry entries of the particular program to fully uninstall it from your computer. If you don’t do so, the empty registry keys of the uninstalled program will not let MSE install on your computer. 5. If you are unable to update MSE, restart the Microsoft Update service. MSE uses the Microsoft Update service to update itself. Click Start> type ‘services.msc’ in the Start Search bar and hit Enter. If prompted, enter you admin password and continue.
