Select the drive you want to clean up, check the files that you want to delete and click "OK." Click "Delete Files" to confirm that you want to permanently delete the selected files. In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals (weekly is optimal), there are other times you should run it, too, such as when:
  • You add a large number of files.
  • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
  • You install new programs or a new version of the Windows operating system.
 3.    Repair Disk Errors:-     Close any programs that are currently running on your system and then click the "Windows Explorer" icon from the taskbar. Alternatively, press the Windows Icon+"E." Select the "Tools" tab at the top of the dialog box and then click "Check now" in the Error-checking field.

Check the box to the left of "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Make sure the box next to "Automatically fix file system errors" is unchecked.

Click "Start" to check for disk errors. When the program has completed its error checking, it will indicate whether you have any disk errors. If the program detects errors, click "Fix Errors."

  2. Try to check your installed applications often and uninstall the ones that you don’t need. To do this go to Control Panel, click on “Programs and Features” (Vista) or “Add/Remove Programs” (XP). Review the list and uninstall the ones that you don’t recognize or simply don’t need. If these won't solve the problem, try contacting remote computer repairs service and I'm sure they will be very happy to help you.

  4. windows 7 is still slow , i not only did all of the above but i also compressed the windows folder , please make sure if you do this do not select te boot files , i also disabled some services , it seems the the software protection is running constantly and is slowing windows 7 down , i would not recommend disabling it , and i also cleaned my prefecth and all temp folders, it seems that superfetch is overflowing the memory and the system often hangs , the aero snap is also slowing down and even worse , my browser constantly hangs on heavy on flash sites , i never experienced this with xp , i geus xp made microsoft so famously arrogant , they dont even care about quality anymore
